Hastings Leadership Academy for Women
Ida Abbott is the co-founder and Director of the Hastings Leadership Academy for Women, a leadership development course for women law firm partners and senior in-house counsel. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to give women the skills, knowledge, techniques, and support that will enable them to achieve their highest potential as leaders in their firms, communities, and profession.
This unique course is designed specifically to address the leadership challenges faced by women partners in law firms and women in corporate legal departments. The educational curriculum addresses those challenges within the political, cultural and economic context of law practice. Participants learn how to make career choices strategically; advocate for themselves; initiate and maintain profitable client relationships; utilize their influence, authority and power in constructive ways; and become role models for others and catalysts for positive change.
While the focus of this program is on women's career advancement, law firms and corporate employers are major beneficiaries. Women partners and in-house counsel constitute a vital and valuable pool of talent. Their leadership is essential to the long-term success of the business in every aspect of management, client relations, and lawyer hiring and retention.
The Leadership Academy is held each summer at the University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
Ida has a sharp and intuitive sense of lawyer workplace communication realities, and effectively zeroes in on the core issues. She understands the unique challenges of developing and advancing women lawyers to leadership positions in their firms.
