Registration for the 2013 Hastings Leadership Academy for Women is open. This leadership development course, designed for women law firm partners and in-house counsel, is an extraordinary learning experience for women who are current leaders or rising stars, and a way for firms and companies to further their commitment to women's advancement.
The next meeting of the Professional Development Roundtable for Global Law Firms will take place on June 17-18, 2013, in New York.
The latest issue of the ABA Journal features articles about women, including one ("Do Women's Initiatives Work?") in which I am quoted. While the quotes are accurate, the author erroneously states I practiced at Orrick. While Orrick is a fine firm, I never worked there; I spent most of my law practice career at another outstanding firm, Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, which alas, no longer exists.
The National Association of Women Lawyers is holding its first Regional General Counsel Institute in Mountain View, CA to focus on best practices for building a successful and satisfying career. I will be leading a panel of General Counsel.
At this year's NALP Annual Education Conference in Tampa, FL, I will be presenting on “Sponsorship programs: An effective advancement strategy for women or a waste of time?”
I will discuss new developments and best practices in talent management with the Bay Area Professional Development Consortium, in San Francisco on April 2.
The CLUB, an incubator of women leaders, is holding a series of engaging conversations between women and men about women’s leadership. I will facilitate the inaugural discussion, entitled Leveraging Feminine Leadership, on March 28, 2013, in San Francisco. For more information, click here.

The kickoff for the 2013 semester of Law Without Walls will be in Segovia, Spain, and I plan to be there! As in past years, I will serve as a Practice Advisor to a team of law and business students from around the world.

The National Legal Mentoring Consortium, a newly formed organization, is holding a conference on mentoring at the University of St. Thomas Law School in Minneapolis, October 4-6, 2012. I am on the Executive Committee of the NLMC and will deliver the keynote address on “Mentoring as a Way to Improve Gender Equity in the Legal Profession.” Details and registration information appear on the Consortium’s website.
The Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) is hosting a luncheon on September 12, 2012, to honor the firms that have met WILEF certification standards for having women in top leadership roles and among their most highly compensated partners. As Chair of the WILEF Certification Committee, I will welcome and present awards to certifying firms. The firms that have been certified are listed on the WILEF website.
